Today, my hamster gave birth. The babies were very cute and I couldn't resist petting one. Apparently touching a baby hamster will cause it's mother to reject and devour it. I am now know in my family as "The Hamster Slaughterer." FML

Today I was born, and this strange creature towered over my mother and my siblings, and touched one of my siblings. Later my mother decided to eat the sibling that the creature touched. Now I am terrified of being petted. FML

I'm sorry to hear that. I honestly didn't know that fact either. I don't blame you because you didn't know and therefore didn't purposely do it.

To me, that's kind of cool but really gross.

if my pet gave birth, i would have informed myself. YDI

nah, probably wasn't your fault. I had some hamster babies in the house in the way long ago--after being assured by the petstore bloke that the hamsters were both female--and the mom pretty much ate one a day

Here's 3 for you: YOU ARE STUPID...

244- i've got 5 for you: you are a ******* asshole

on the other hand, how are baby hamsters cute? They're shriveled, blind, and look like they got hit head on by the ugly truck

And really, as for the majority of posters out there, y'all need to chill out. OP wasn't breeding hamsters. She may not have even known that she had a male and a female. Or there may have just been a female who was preggers when she was sold. Hamsters are usually pets for people inexperienced with pets--one step above a goldfish. Can we really expect OP to have recognized what hamster pregnancy looked like? She was probably completely surprised when the hamster started pushing out babies, and touched one somewhat impulsively. As for posters bitching about how this is a crime against humanity, hamsters are basically rats that happen to be a whole lot cuter. They're ******* animals, and don't need to be respected. So feel bad for the OP's loss, not for some tragic loss of hamster life.

**** off those rats don't need be respected dogs and cats fine and those types of animals and yes I'm 14 get over it my opinion don't need haters

I agreed with everything EXCEPT animals don't need respect. Animal cruelty isn't cool. Yeah people need to chill though.

Domestic rats are also a whole lot cuter than hamsters, just saying. And f you for saying animals don't need to be respected, jerk.

I wonder why hamsters do that and rats (mostly) don't. Weird.
