I had the same thing happen, but after the babies were born, we did some reading up. The mom was still crazy and ate the babies anyway, even though we did everything right. But still, why would you not read up on this as soon as it gave birth? That's what my family did, and that was before the convenience of Google.
You deserve it. The least you could have done is looked up how to take care of hamster babies after it gave birth. We are in the age of information and technologies. Besides, I thought it was pretty common knowledge not to touch animal babies till they are at least old enough to get around.
FML and YDI, I wish I could pick both.
you seriously didnt know hamsters eat their young if we touch them?
i had no freaking idea hamsters eat their young if they're touched
it's a bit late, but LOL@ #9
In a couple months you'll be intentionally handling them. Just wait.
Deserved, dipshit
I always thought it was the men that would eat the babies. When I was really young, some lady at the petstore had me persuade my mom into letting me buy two guinea pigs for the price of one. She failed to mention they were male and female. So whenever the female had litters, we just seperated the male, and everything was fine. It confuses me when people say you never touch baby animals. When dogs and cats give birth, it's usually the owner that picks them up, cuts the cord and cleans them off before handing it back to the mother. Baby animals are touched a lot, it's just that some animals have the tendency to eat their young. You can't really prevent that.
Now imagine witnessing the same thing at 8 or 6 years old. That was me and my brother. It was a severely traumatizing experience.

Today I was born, and this strange creature towered over my mother and my siblings, and touched one of my siblings. Later my mother decided to eat the sibling that the creature touched. Now I am terrified of being petted. FML
I'm sorry to hear that. I honestly didn't know that fact either. I don't blame you because you didn't know and therefore didn't purposely do it.
