Today, my heating broke. It's 22 degrees outside, and my father won't let us call someone to fix it because apparently the cold helps the soul grow. FML

You think 22 degrees is cold !?!?! It's like -22 here ! Don't be a wimp ! :)

That's horrible! Why doesn't he get the heater fixed? If he wants some cold for his soul he can go outside instead of making hix entire family suffer.

No, the cold makes your nipples grow.

Set the couch on fire. If he lets it burn, he's truly spiritual.

It's just enough to harm someone living in it for extended periods of time. How can living in an enviroment where the it's below freezing point possibly good for something that's almost completely made of water?

Your father is just being cheap. Call someone anyway. In fact, call the most expensive person you can find. That will really stick it to him.

My house doesn't have heating, And it often gets below 0*F where I live. It's really not that bad.

who pays for the heating and the broken pipes?

Yeah, that's my question, too. 20 degrees is survivable for an extended period with warm clothes and blankets. But, tonight when it drops ten to twenty degrees further, you're going to have some burst pipes and flooding. The alternative being not having water, which on average is more likely to kill you than build character in the long run.

They don't break. The pipes are properly insulated, so cold temps don't freeze them. Seriously, these temperatures don't kill you. I and my roommates have been through multiple winters without heating in below freezing weather. Water freezes in my room. Also, we have no hot water. Stop whining.

Kinda sounds like the crew leader I had to work under at one welding job that in the winter he would always bitch at us for being cold...and then yell 'The heat's in the tools!!' I hated working there when it would get to be 5 degrees outside. :|
