Today, my husband refused to let our 7-week-old daughter have a pacifier, because he doesn't want her growing up to be a "whore." FML

msmidnight1965 tells us more.

We have those orthodontic ones that help with oral development. They also resemble the nipple during breast feeding.

pacifiers are garbage. babies cry for a reason. pacifiers just cover up the problem. Never used them never will.

Really? Babies are soothed by the sucking reflex. Pacifiers are a god-send up to a certain age. Do your research.

"babies cry for a reason" like, maybe they're stressed or hungry for example? If stressed, the sucking motion can sooth them. If hungry and you don't want to whip out a breast in public, maybe it'll calm them down a bit until you can. Congrats to you on not using them, but I think dismissing them as garbage for all mothers is a bit harsh. Babies cry for a reason, and mothers use pacifiers for a reason too!

Actually do YOUR research. Accding to the Mayo Clinic "Early pacifier use might interfere with breast-feeding. Sucking on a breast is different from sucking on a pacifier or bottle, and some babies are sensitive to those differences. Research suggests that early use of artificial nipples is associated with decreased exclusive breast-feeding. Your baby might become dependent on the pacifier. If your baby uses a pacifier to sleep, you might face frequent middle-of-the-night crying spells when the pacifier falls out of your baby's mouth. Pacifier use might increase the risk of middle ear infections. However, rates of middle ear infections are generally lowest from birth to age 6 months — when the risk of SIDS is the highest and your baby might be most interested in a pacifier. Prolonged pacifier use might lead to dental problems" Paci's are a temporary solution and can be terrible to wean a child off of. My 5 month old daughter wont take them and will take it out and throw it it given one. I refused to have her given a paci or bottle til a good breastfeeding relationship was established. By then she wouldnt take a paci and will rarely take a bottle. OP's husband was obviously kidding but a kid doesnt NEED a paci.

Well my daughter was born 6 weeks early and refused to breastfeed, and sometimes the only way to calm her after I've tried everything (feeding, changing her diaper, cuddling etc) is with the soother. And there are actually shooters out there that help with oral development (Nuk from Gerber)

*soothers. Also the same soother and bottle set from Nuk resemble the nipple while breastfeeding

I used pacifiers and i never had a problem breastfeeding. She loved to nurse, and just needed her paci for comfort when sleeping. And when it falls out at night, she ignores it. Because she's sleeping and didn't notice..

Your husband is a complete moron.

How can he think of his daughter that way? That's sick

Almost every baby has used a pacifier. Yeah, some people are ******, but I don't think sucking on a binky makes a baby or toddler think, "Oh my god, this is awesome, time to suck penis."

And what did he suck on when he was a baby?
