Today, my minivan broke down on the side of the highway. I'm out of work and can't afford a cell phone, so I resorted to standing at the back of my van holding a "HELP" sign. About an hour went by, in which time I was passed by a cop car, a firetruck, and a car that said "Roadside Assistance." FML

If you want a cop to stop you should write "Free Donuts".

oh dam shows how helpful they are haha don't worry my brother in law got his car jacked at 12pm and cops didn't show up till like 6pm or so but we still got the car back :-)

Lol #11, we must live in the same area. Cops pull over in pairs of two's and three's here too. And sorry OP, that sucks. Maybe you should have showed some skin? I've seen it work for guys as well.

OP has no job. He/she is poor.

You're supposed to turn on your emergency flashers and lift your engine, smart one. How do people get their licenses without remembering that?

The cops, fire truck and road side assistance were probably already dispatched somewhere else, they can't stop for something else if they've already been dispatched.. Shame none of the regular drivers helped you.

That's what I thought, but still, they could've radioed for help. My husband works for a roadside assistance company, and they're allowed to take straight calls too. Since he works on commission, I know he would've either called for help or come back if he'd seen it. Maybe it was a high-speed road and people couldn't read the sign.
