Today, my minivan broke down on the side of the highway. I'm out of work and can't afford a cell phone, so I resorted to standing at the back of my van holding a "HELP" sign. About an hour went by, in which time I was passed by a cop car, a firetruck, and a car that said "Roadside Assistance." FML

Goes to show just how kind people can be these days.

If you want a cop to stop you should write "Free Donuts".

you can't afford a cell phone, yet you can afford an internet connection (most likely high speed, prob $50-60 a month) to troll the internet? BTW, you can get prepaid cell phones, althou they're majorly expensive... the at&t ones are fairly reasonable.... and even if you have an old cell phone that has no service, it will still connect you to 911, just to let you know

True, a phone without a SIM will still dial 911...

very true i found tht one out by accidentally typing 999 into one of my OLD nokias (when they were in green and black and still had snake) haha

This is not a situation in which someone should call 911 though, so really, how would the old phone work in this instance? A lot of these comments about how someone can not have cell phone service but write an FML are very frustrating. Shows how misinformed and clueless people can be about having to prioritize spending. First of all, the OP could be at a library or relative's home...but even so, these days I'd say internet connection comes before cell phone service. It's simply more necessary on a daily basis.

lift your engine??? you're a dumbass, its lift your hood. and op that sucks, don't pay taxes so the cops and firefighters don't get your hard earned money. lol jk

you're too poor to afford a phone but not poor enough to afford an iPod touch?

u realize you can write an fml on any computer or handheld device with Internet. it isn't just an iPhone app

You should have just held up a sign saying 'Free Donuts' and you would have got every cop in the state!

I wonder where you could have gotten an idea like that.

how's that for irony lol but good luck with your car :) and defiantly an FYL

you should probably buy a prepaid/pay as you go phone for emergencies like this one. I mean it's not like they're hard to get, they cost about $30 up front and you can even buy them at places like 7-11 if you don't have a wireless store near you.

Honestly, if it was that easy for some people....THEY WOULD DO IT. Someone please tell me why this is such an impossible concept for so many to understand!

y'all, stop and think. maybe the police, fire fighters, and roadside assistance people were going to ANOTHER accident. they probably didn't just pass OP without helping for the heck of it.

Creepy dude + van + help sign? Yyyeah, I wouldn't have stopped either. If I were you, I'd get an emergency tracfone.
