Today, my parents made me quit a school team that I absolutely loved, because women "aren't supposed to play sports." and were worried that if I stayed on the team, I'd develop a manly physique. FML

It's cases like these where it's acceptable to stand up against your parents. I know that people around you agree, and look at these comments. Don't quit. Be yourself OP.

Use your strength to kick them both in the shins

I think I must have missed that day at my Presbyterian church where they said that wasn't okay. Been doing martial arts for eleven years?

I am so sorry, what decade are your parents living in? Thats just sad that they don't realize how crucial sports are for building confidence and promoting psychical and mental health for the rest of your life. I feel for you.

I don't remember chasing no ball when I was on the swim team.

I'm guessing #44 was always the last pick for class games

And, along with no ball in swimming, I'm pretty sure I didn't chase after a ball in track or cross country, and there is definitely no ball involved in my boyfriend's wrestling.

That is so wrong! I hate how there are people who still think that way, it's disgusting. Women are so capable of doing sports, just look at the USA's soccer team! Do what you love. Stand up against them. Maybe show them this post and all the comments.

Even if sports gave you a "manly" physique, it's your body and your decision on how you want to look.

show them a picture of those kick ass ufc women, they are hot as hell and at their peak physical performance. your parents are dopey...

And what's wrong with a "manly physique," some of the hottest girls at my high school and college play/played sports

There are far too many benefits of being in a team. If there's any way you can talk to a counselor I would recommend that, maybe someone on the school end of things can help you out, and perhaps your parents would be more willing to listen to an adult/authority figure. Please do whatever you can to keep doing what you are passionate about, and what makes you happy.

lmao I thought I was the only person that got the reference for a second there

It's actually really hard for girls to have huge muscles...even harder than it is for guys (which obviously is still really hard) you wouldn't develop a "manly" look without years of hard work, the right diet/ exercise and dedication I think you should calmly explain to your parents that you love the sport and why you wouldn't develop a "manly" look

Okay, sorry to say this OP, but your parents are sexist *******. FYL OP, that sucks, I'm sorry
