Today, my sister and I heard back from a job we both applied to. I had used the knowledge from my MBA degree to write a six-page essay for the application, while she just copied and pasted hers from a random website. Guess who got the job. FML

You're better off not working in a place like that if they don't appreciate real effort and hard work anyway. Hope you find a job, OP.

As I hiring manager myself, to be honest I wouldn't have the time to read a 6 page essay written in proper APA formatting. It's great you have your MBA and all but keep in mind not everyone out there is interested in reading a short story for a resume. We want just the basics so we can formulate our own questions and have you answer them systematically as they will be open ended. From there we can form our own conclusion. The fact you wrote a 6 page essay shows that your believe your education will get you everything yet you don't have the necessary soft skill needed for a work environment. Don't NUKE it...keep it simple.

who the hell wants to read a 6 page job application?

Six pages is overkill. Do you know how many applications they're reading? Keep it under a page next time.

That my friend is plagiarism what your sister did. I know it probably not the best idea, but you should turn her in.

Haha it's a dog eat dog world. Got to do what you got to do to get ahead

as someone who interviews and hires people I wouldn't have hired you either. You actually think we have time to read a six page essay? I guarantee you they tossed your book of a resume straight in the trash. we spend 5 mins max on each resume. take some resume writing courses, learn to get the important information onto a single page because that's all were going to read.

6 pages is a lot, no one wants to read something that long.

They probably didn't even read it...they look at so many apps they probably wanted brief and to the point. It's still bs though I'm sure you'll find something better :)

It's maybe because of the five extra pages
