Today, my sister asked me to help her set up for my niece's birthday party. Being the lazy person that I am, I got my niece to blow up the non-helium balloons. Apparently she's allergic to latex and I'll be the one paying for the hospital bill. FML

Today, my sisters and I were throwing my mom a birthday party. Since I'm not good at baking, I ordered her a really nice and expensive cake. As my daughter and I were headed out the door, she told me she had added some sprinkles to make it pretty. It was the silica beads from a package. FML

I voted YDI, but I think I may have been a bit hasty. Who's to say that the allergy was well known? I mean, I know parents today, and if their child is allergic to something, they don't keep it in the house. I think if they knew she was allergic to latex the wouldn't get latex non-helium balloons. If they knew about it and still got them, they should be the ones paying the hospital bill, because it's their own damn fault there were latex balloons in the first place. Chances are they didn't know, and what a way to find you. At least she's okay, right?

That sucks. 1) If they didn't know she was allergic to latex, it's not your fault and you shouldn't have to pay. They should actually be thanking you since later in life she won't be going to the hospital in a more compromising position.... 2) If they did know, what kind of parent would have latex balloons at their kids party fully aware they could have an allergic reaction if they touched them? FYL either way, sucks.

Unless the parents are complete dumbasses, there is no way the allergy was known. I don't see anything wrong with the birthday girl helping with her own party. I definitely don't think the OP should have to pay for the medical bill.

wow you definitely deserve it for making a girl blow up baloons for her own birthday! and doesn't that mean she can never have sex with a guy using a condom? that sucks but doesn't sound like she's very old yet if she doesn't know what she is allergic to lo.
