CTRL+S every 2 - 3 paragraphs, or 20 lines. Seriously, this should be automatic for anyone that is in a class or profession that requires writing long documents.

Well you gotta learn some way. Happened to me with my 20 pg thesis paper, now I save after every sentence.
In Britain we do 30 page assignments every week. I study s degree in IT. Still sucks to lose your work though
even if she did download a virus, restarting the computer wouldn't get rid of it -.-

I'm not certain why you never saved it once. It just seems like the obvious thing to do. There is a chance that the file still exists on your hard drive if you want to search for it. Some word processors create auto recoveries and backups which are sometimes hidden files.
Hopefully your document has auto save function. Or use EasyRecovery. Good luck!
