Today, my telephone line was hit by lightning. I discovered that not only will lightning fry a router, it will also destroy any PCs connected to that router via network cables. I also discovered that a $10 phone line surge protector would have saved nearly $3,000 worth of PC equipment. FML

You lucky you. Surge protector worth 10 bucks would probably set your house on fire.

HAH. YDI for not getting one though. This one was actually good. Also, I like the OPs name.

Funny thing is that if you didn't write the last sentence people wouldn't say YDI. And those who say it probably don't even got one themself. FYL

This one is good!!! You lost things that wern't dead cheap!!! @person who had their mcdonalds breakfast stolen and wrote an FML about it.

Dude! You didn't know about surge protectors? Where do you live?

Easier fix, we DON'T use our computer during a storm. If there's lightening, you unplug the damn thing and keep it disconnected. That does suck though, but srsly that much worth of PC equipment you should have been smarter about protecting it.

Btw, you totally could have set up a wireless network in that piece. You would have just lost the modem

YDI for not having a surge protector, you can get them cheaper then $10 anyway. Jew.

few things worng with this FML a) any persone who spent three grand on a pc would be smart enough to buy an extreme N router and a extreme n wirless card for there computer to elimnate anoying cables

b) the cable would melt so fast in he event of a lightning strike the current would not be able to reach another computer
