Today, my telephone line was hit by lightning. I discovered that not only will lightning fry a router, it will also destroy any PCs connected to that router via network cables. I also discovered that a $10 phone line surge protector would have saved nearly $3,000 worth of PC equipment. FML

You lucky you. Surge protector worth 10 bucks would probably set your house on fire.

HAH. YDI for not getting one though. This one was actually good. Also, I like the OPs name.

Why would u not buy a surge protector? It's just common sense to buy one. YDI for not buying the proper equipment to protect your computers.

I consider myself relatively tech savvy, and I have never heard of a surge protector for your phone line. I'm willing to bet most of the people who have commented are thinking of the normal power strip surge protectors. Then again, I've got a cheap wireless router and an adapter for my desktop, so I don't really have any need there.

Should have has wires from your electricity tingy to your neighbours cat battery tingy and it would burn his car too or start it and steal it sell it then you got your money back.

I purchased a surge protector for $40 USD and it comes with a warranty of $500,000 in case it fails. RIP your PC hardware mate, I feel your pain, I built my own.

I'm not saying YDI because i have no idea what that is

trust me. it wouldnt help. we got a power surge box from our electric company, lightening hit it causing all of our expensive electronics to short out, the only thing that worked was our 10 dollar stereo system........
