Today, my therapist told me, "I'm sorry, but I'm not qualified to handle your level of instability." FML

And how does that make you feel?

Probably thinks you have some form of mental illness that's best treated by a psychiatrist rather than a therapist, because a psychiatrist is an M.D. and can prescribe meds. And phrased it poorly.

Did your therapist wipe off your bank account completely?

While I don't think the therapist's choice of words is necessary (if those were his/her exact words) the therapist is acting ethically -- any time a counselor, therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist isn't specifically trained to treat your disorder or anytime he/she feels uncomfortable handling a specific disorder (and every therapist has limitations) they are required by a strict code of ethics to refer you to another professional who CAN help you. Also, remember, it is not the therapist's job to make you feel better temporarily, but instead to challenge your mal-adaptive thought processes, teach you new ways of thinking and coping, and to reflect internally to gain self awareness necessary to become stable.

Neither has yours you are just as insignificant as I am

This is why you do not look for therapists on Gregg's list.

just go to another one. maybe they'll help you.

I hate therapists so much! When I was a teenager I was made see one by my parents. I was a goth then and they were convinced I needed help! Well I tell this that I am tired of how people on streets call me names for how I dress. He then calls in my parents and translates what I said as "she is hearing voices" I shit you not! He then put me on medication I was made to take, I was 16, I'm 26 now and can not survive without that medication

Damn, that sucks for you. I'm truly sorry.

Holy dang O.o FYL. I'm sorry about that. My mom made me take therapy for a reason very similar to that, when she was in reality the one needing therapy. Sucks.

Your parents should have been the ones to go to therapy, not you. We're you raised in a Conservative Christian home? The extremists of that group are known to say and do hypocritical or prejudiced acts...

****** shit. Psychotherapy is a profession that, when done correctly, can have profoundly positive effects on patients, but can do irreversible damage in the hands of an idiot. Stories like that make me ashamed to be a human. Ironically, something than can help you with the addiction is a good therapist, but then again... Don't let that experience put you off though. Seek help to get off the medication. At least now you have a choice and can back out anytime you wish.

Thank you all for such caring comment
