Today, my young son and I were in line at Subway. I guess he got bored and started to insult the teenage girl behind us. I tried to get him to stop, but he wouldn't listen. Eventually the girl punched him in the face and left. As my son cried uncontrollably, everyone else there clapped. FML

My sympathy goes to the OP. Kids are hard to manage; all of you were probably fuckheads as kids too, seeing as you're all fuckheads now.

So because children are difficult to manage we should just let them run wild and free? No not really. Children push the limits and test the boundaries you give them. The only learn to respect you as a parent of you enforce those boundaries. For example, if OP had said "if you don't stop and apologize right now we're going home and eating something from there instead." and then took her bratty child home the moment he started to insult the girl again, he would've learned that there will be undesirable consequences for bad behavior. Its the OP's responsibility to discipline her child, even if it means missing out on Subway herself.

It's not like he got punched after saying ONE nasty thing, he kept on insulting her even after his mother told him to stop. No, he didn't deserve to get PUNCHED, but he did deserve some kind of punishment.
