Today, not long after having had my college volleyball scholarship confirmed, I broke my ankle after stepping on and tripping over a toy my baby sister had left out. No scholarship and no college whatsoever now. FML

Eye for an eye. Tooth for a tooth. BROKEN ANKLE FOR A BROKEN ANKLE. Siblings. *sigh*

That really sucks! What about academic scholarships?

There isn't a broken ankle scholarship?!?!

No offense, but try attending college without having your tuition handed to you on a silver platter? I do it without help. You have options, you're just throwing yourself a pity party because its harder than you wanted it to be. Grow up, this is the real world.

judging from the fact op got the scholarship in the first place , they must have put a lot of time into the sport to be worthy of a scholarship. Don't be jealous.

Ydi for not applying yourself academically

You have no proof whatsoever that the OP isn't going to a top school (Stanford, for example) that doesn't give academic scholarships or give very, very few. You also have no proof that she wasn't also offered an academic scholarship at her college, but not enough of one to offset the cost of college attendance. God, people on this site are so freaking judgmental.

Oh no! FML!! I feel bad for you. Really, I do. And I'm hating on all the people who said YDI. The economy is bad, and not everyone wants to take out a loan on an education that doesn't guarantee a nice job whatsoever. No one deserves to endure physical and emotional pain because they "didn't have a back-up plan". For some people, sport's scholarships are the only way they could ever go to college.

Actually they deserve all of it and this fml is just a perfect example why. If you're only plan is a sports scholarship, you should probably never do anything other than practice and play your sport. Your entire education is rested on your body being in perfect condition. I'm not saying sports scholarships are bad, but if you really expected that alone to carry you all the way through school, you're neither smart enough nor grown up enough to be going to college.

Well I'm sure a lot of people would rather go to a school that offered them a full ride athletic scholarship than go to one that offered a partial academic scholarship. That could very well have been the case for OP, which sounds pretty smart if you ask me. Better than taking out loans.

Plenty of people rely on sports scholarships to attend college. They may be physically gifted, and academically average. The toy incident was a freak accident, and doesn't mean that the OP didn't take care of themselves physically. And plenty of people aren't grownup enough to go to college, because many of them are only 18.
