Today, it was my first day at school in the United States. Being from France, my French accent is really strong. After being made fun of all day, I met someone from Montreal. I was so excited and said, "Parlez-vous Français?" And his response? "HUH?!" FML

Today, we had a substitute teacher. She was taking attendance and had trouble pronouncing my last name. When I corrected her, I heard her mutter under her breath about, “Goddamn Mexican immigrants…” I’m from Greek ancestry, born in the USA. FML

Today, my teacher, who's Irish, called me insensitive and stupid for imitating her accent. I'm Filipino and my parents immigrated to Ireland where I was born, and then we moved to Canada when I was 14. Her response to my explanation? "Bullshit." FML

Today, the parent of a student called to ask me about a homework assignment. At the end of the call, she told me that I seem to be losing my "Asian accent" from when she first talked to me in the summer. I was born in the US, grew up in NJ and speak perfect English. FML

Today, a customer asked me if I was English, because I was struggling to understand what he was saying. I said yes. He then called me a liar, and said I must be "one of them Polish immigrants." Oh, and he also had a thick Scottish accent. FML

Today, I started my first teaching job ever. As I was teaching, another teacher interrupted my class about 5 times because she thought it was her class. Not only did she ruin my confidence, her behavior caused my students to laugh at me. FML

Today, my English teacher kicked me out of class for being "rude and disruptive." In actuality, I had called her out for having blatantly used Google Translate for several example sentences, all of which sounded as if a semi-literate foreigner had constructed them. FML

I have sympathy for op... how were they supposed to know some kids fake accents and are actually really convincing but also really annoying.

It's not so much that you should know the students, you just shouldn't punish kids for something as harmless as using an accent. It's not like an accent could hold up the class or something. Anyway, YDI

Wow, I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't get a job if you end up becoming a teacher. And I'm not just being bitchy, my mom's a teacher and I know what it's like, but seriously you didn't have to word it like that, let alone assume the kid was faking an accent.

You're right. He needs to get rid of his silly accent and work double hard to get a proper British one. He sound smarter than he is, provided he comes to the US, where you get 15 free IQ points for having a British accent. An Eastern European accent is -10 points and you are assumed to being a whiner.

She didnt know it was a REAL accent, she thought it was fake so she told him to quit it. Damn if you're gonna post such a long paragraph then read the FML carefully.
