Today, someone stole my coat. I can only imagine their surprise when they find the $3,000 engagement ring I bought earlier. FML

Oh man, I hope you got insurance on the ring. That certainly sucks.

Wow, sorry about that. Hope things get better for you OP

Your broad knew what you were up to, did not see herself marrying you, 'stole' your jacket and sold that ring.. eh I don't know just a scenario.

I read coat as cat and was very confused. Ooops. Anyway, I'm sorry that happened. I hope it can be tracked down somehow by the cops, or maybe it'll be returned to wherever it was stolen from (unlikely, but on very very rare occasions somebody does feel guilt and returns whatever they stole).

To be fair it's not like the ring is $3000 to them, there's no way in hell they'd get that much for it even if they convinced someone they came into possession of it legally

Ouch, that truly sucks! Hope you'll feel better soon... :(

That is really really terrible but did you seriously leave the ring in a coat pocket and leave the coat hung up or lying around somewhere?? If I had anything worth any money or sentimentality in my pocket I would keep that shit on me obsessively.

That person will reach Nirvana, try to forget it Op

You've made someone very very happy - that's what you wanted right?!

Maybe you should thank him if they ever find him. I mean most marriages end up in divorce anyways so he prolly saved you a lot more then 3000 dollars (which if you got insurance on the ring they will replace) after you look at the cost the honeymoon, kids (if you have any), possibly the wedding and all that stuff.

How can anyone think that OP deserved this? Is it the morons who adopt the idea that "If you really cared about it, you wouldn't let it get stolen"? No, seriously. Please, give me a good reason why.

I think many feel OP failed to use common sense. Although OP did not specifically state where the coat was when it was stolen it was likely not in his possession at the time, if he was wearing it he was in a dodgy neighborhood were a thief felt safe confronting his victim to steal the coat, or if the coat was nearby say on his chair back then he was carelessly distracted. Most people would keep a large amount of cash or valuable item on their person.
