Today, the clock in the study lounge was off, so I was half-an-hour late to class. I was too embarrassed to walk in late, so I sat for the next half-hour with my ear against the door trying to hear the lecture. People stopped to ask if there was something wrong with me. Yeah, probably. FML

And that wasn't too embarrassing? Just go into the lecture next time...

Don't worry, it's normal. I also did that once.

I'd say YDI but social anxiety is hard to deal with. If it's that much of a problem just try to catch it up later.

I wouldn't go in either , just thinking about all the people that are staring at you while you're walking past is unreal

So they're looking at you. Look back at them. Simple.

Better than walking in without any problem then discover after 5 min youre not in The right lecture & walk out xD yeah the difference between business economics and cruise tourism is so hard to figure out xD

I've missed classes on the idea that I might have the wrong room, even when I was almost certain, because I was too scared of walking into the wrong class. Social anxiety is a bitch.

We all get overwhelmed at one time or another; kudos to you for going anyway and doing what you have to do to learn!

So instead of being disturbing for 20 sec. you decided to be totally disturbing for a half hour. ydi. go get some help

She wasn't stopping the people, they chose to stop and not mind their own business. I don't see what's wrong with her behavior in relation to everyone else.

How is that being disturbing??? Its just sitting there trying to hear her lecture, it's not as if she were doing something wrong

Well now you know the clock is off and will never be late again I have actually learned being counted absent is sometimes better than late when things are getting tight

Next time, just take a deep breath and just go in. If they lecturer stops and everyone looks at you just say in a loud and clear voice : "Goodmorning sir, I am terribly sorry I am late, could please still come in? " and yes it might scare the hell out of you, but once you did it you'll realize that its not a big deal. (unless the teacher is decides he is going to give you a hard time..) Unless the teacher wants you to sneak in quietly and make as less noise as possible. I'd say better come in late than not showing up at all.. try to stay polite, however show that your motivated to go to class. If the teacher does not allow you in, go see him-her afterwards and apologize, you´ll be suprised what happens.

Yeah, usually the professors just want you to make as little a distraction as possible. Though i agree with you, a big part of social anxiety is confronting it. It sucks, but it's true.

From my experience, when I saw someone walk into a room late, I didn't care or give it a second thought. I assume everybody else feels the same way. OP, just walk in and sit down. Nobody cares you came to class late. College is alot more relaxed vs high school.
