Today, the clock in the study lounge was off, so I was half-an-hour late to class. I was too embarrassed to walk in late, so I sat for the next half-hour with my ear against the door trying to hear the lecture. People stopped to ask if there was something wrong with me. Yeah, probably. FML

a) most girls don't wear watches, at least not where I am b) she thought the clock was right, and had no reason to question it, so why would she check the time on something else?

No need to be rude, 41. Perhaps Op uses their phone for time, like most people do. As it seems Op is willing to go great lengths for their education, I'm assuming Op powered off her phone to prevent interuptions as she studied, leaving her to rely on the clock that was there.

I have social anxiety too, OP, so I completely understand the struggle. I know how hard it is to deal with ordinary social situations. I was once about 30 minutes late to the first class of the semester, and all of the seats were taken, so I had to sit up front with the teacher by the podium for the rest of the lecture. It was very uncomfortable to say the least.
