Today, the guy I'm dating found out I have severe arachnophobia. He downloaded a picture of a huge, hairy spider and set it as background on my iPhone. I can't even unlock my phone, as every time I try, the spider pops up and I drop the phone. He laughs every time I do it. FML

Today, my girlfriend, KNOWING I have severe arachnophobia, changed the wallpapers on my phone and tablet to pictures of tarantulas, all because she's mad at me. And she won't change it back. FML

Today, I found a big spider on my wall. I have arachnophobia, and I was trying to kill it with my shoe. I pulled back and hit myself in the face, causing me to fall backwards. The spider is still alive somewhere in my house. FML

Today, my significant other woke at 4:30 a.m. to me crying about a spider in the bathroom. I have an intense fear of spiders; he was super nice and took care of it for me. He even walked me out to my car. I started to calm down driving to work, but when I got there what do I see on the door handle but a spider. I'm still shaking. FML

Today, as part of our prank war, my girlfriend found a hairy tarantula picture and stuck it on the wall. I hadn't yet told her I'm arachnophobic, and when I saw it I passed out and hit my head hard enough to need an ambulance. She decided she's won the war and I don't get a say in the matter. FML

Today, I spotted a huge spider in my bedroom. I freaked out at first, but I managed to confront my arachnophobia and killed it with a book. I was ecstatic and went to tell my boyfriend. By the time I returned to my room, the "dead" spider had vanished. Now I'm too scared to sleep. FML

Today, knowing that I have severe arachnophobia, my brother brought over his friend's tarantula. One hour later, the spider got loose. It's been 5 hours and I'm afraid to go to sleep. FML

Today, my boyfriend found out about my severe phobia of moths. It's so bad that I sometimes pass out. He caught a moth in a jar, and put it on my bedside table. I woke up, saw it, and had a panic attack. He recorded it all and wants to upload it to YouTube. FML

Today, I reached into my wardrobe to get ready for the day, when something hairy tickled my hand. Imagine my shock seeing a fully-grown wolf spider staring me down from a coat hanger. I grabbed the can of bug spray and let him have it. Half the can later, I now need to re-wash my entire closet. Damn arachnophobia. FML

Today, my roommate thought it would be a good idea to show me his huge new tarantula despite knowing that I have extremely severe arachnophobia. I ended up killing it with a book and apparently now owe him $500. FML

I'm sorry for you! I have an extreme fear of spiders too, even pictures creep me out. People can't help what they're afraid of, and telling them to just "get over it" doesn't make them not scared! ): Sometimes people really surprise me with their lack of compassion for other people's feelings.

OP, ask somebody else to change the background on your iPhone and cut all contact with this guy. He obviously has no respect for you and his behavior is very disturbing. He is cruel and lacks basic empathy to others. You will be better off without him.

I understand, OP!! I too have arachnophobia, and others have tried to make a joke of it. I can tell you all that until you have a phobia of something, you will NEVER know the horror of another person treating it as a joke. One time a coworker, after learning of my fear, threw a plastic spider at me over a cubicle wall. After spending an hour crying and shaking, my coworker (and everyone else I work with) has never attempted to pull any BS like this again. My husband finds my fear cute when I react, but he understands how real my fear is and would NEVER turn it into a game to taunt me with for his own amusement. OP if you boyfriend doesn't stop, it will continue. He sounds insensitive and immature. Tell him to quit being a prick!! I'm truly sorry, OP! I hope your jerk of a boyfriend stops being a dick!!!
