I feel a little weird since all I do is burp and them my hiccups are gone. I stop doing all the silly stuff when it didn't work for me.
Drinking upside down is my go-to method as well, but it is kind of tricky and I think it would be difficult for a small child to wrap their head around what they were trying to do. My second favorite method (well, favorite honestly but not very healthy) is a spoonful of sugar. For children, I'd probably recommend that first.
#74, do you have a source on that? I heard from a hospital doctor that this is a common misconception.
YDI for giving her a not only dangerous method, but false one as well.
When I'm with kids that have hiccups I tell them to hold their breath as long as they can. It's always worked for them.
I feel like you should be careful telling kids to do stuff like that... :P
74, the kid is 9 years old, I'm sure if she had trouble breathing she would've told OP. Also the larynx reflex thing stops around a year of age. You can usually trigger the baby to breathe again by blowing in their face. What most likely happened that either the kid has a really sensitive gag reflex and the water flowing along the roof of the mouth triggered it, or she choked and caughed until she threw up. Unfortunate but totally harmless.
Breathe deeply from the stomach. Hiccups is just an upset diaphragm
I used to drink a small capful of vinegar, now just smelling vinegar works for me.

I have never heard of that trick. Looks like it doesn't work.
