Today, the nine year old girl I was babysitting got the hiccups, so I told her to drink some water upside down to cure them. She ended up vomiting on the floor. FML

I have never heard of that trick. Looks like it doesn't work.

well, it's not good for a person to drink upside down. lesson learned today

Maybe the hiccup problem was a tummy problem and the reason she threw up and got rid of the hiccups

Quick correction on that, you can drown on a 'sip of water'.There is dry drowning and secondary drowning. They can happen with an amount of water as small as a teaspoon and take effect hours afterwards. It is not very common but is more common in small children. So it isn't entirely risk free, generally if you keep an eye out for signs of trouble breathing it is fine though.

Eating a pickle seems to be the best method of hiccup removal for me.

lmao this is the funniest thing i read all day

I've found that, ironically enough, the Mary Poppins method works. Take a regular size spoon and get a small scoop of sugar and then put it in your mouth and swallow the sugar. It stops them every time we've tried it.

My uncle always had me hold my breath, and while holding my breath swallow three times. You'll end up breathing in a tiny bit extra, and it's kind of hard at first, but you'll get used to it. It seriously works every single time I've done it and I get hiccups like twice a day. Try that OP! Hope it helps!

Empty your lungs entirely then fill them to their max capacity and hold your breath for around 30 seconds, this "resets" the muscles who's spasms cause hiccups and gets rid of them.
