thelistman tells us more.
Also, for the whole story, I had three other people in the car with me when I was caught "running a red light" by 2 cops who were both behind me. I was clearly in the middle of the intersection when the light turned yellow. I have a feeling that the judge was in a shitty mood that day. This was my first ticket I've ever received, and I've been driving for seven years. Even if I was guilty, I don't know why my fine was $1,000 with a license suspension when the original ticket was $75, and no other tickets on my record. This judge is going down.

i'm glad i'm not the only one who's skeptical. you can get a judge to rule in your favor simply by the cop not showing up, i seriously doubt a judge would ignore all of that evidence in favor of one party's testimony.
Who's to say it's not possible? Cases like this are the very reason appeals are built into the justice system.
And how do you propose not having the cop show up?
@30 Why would he not ignore it? YOU made a judgment based solely on hearing i/2 of the case... you do not know what the prosecution said or presented.
ha! you really think the cops like showing up for court dates? they get out of it any time they can!!
I call fake...
i second that!
I third that! My husband is a Police Officer and I used to work for several attorney's offices (before I decided I hate paperwork that is) therefore I'd say I have a pretty good idea of when someone is full of BS. If the Officer wasn't there to fight it, then it automatically gets ruled in your favor, ESPECIALLY since you say there's no evidence of you being guilty. BUT IF you aren't lying, then the Judge's ruling could be based on one of two things: 1: You're an annoying smart ass that thinks he knows better than everyone and doesn't know when to shut up. And the Judge decided to use un-righteous dominion over you just because he can. OR 2: You live in a town of population 1,000 and 700 of that is cows, and the legal system is a joke because everyone got their certificates in the mail after sending in 20 Skoal UPCs.
Or, the OP could have multiple previous driving convictions.
I'd also email the story/videos to your local news stations. One of those whistleblower segments could serve you well.
Ignorance is bliss.
Asshole judge... Sue his ass for good.
Can you say Appeal? Also, get your lawyer to demand a different judge, preferably one that actually uses his/her skull to store their brain, not their day-old jelly doughnuts.
I agree with 19, let the media know. Hopefully they'll run the story. If they do, it might save you a lot of money if you decide to get another hearing. Hiring a lawyer may cost you more than the fine is worth.

I am about 90% sure that the judge is sleeping with the cop.
Oh wow that really sucks. You should apply for an immediate appeal and find yourself a decent lawyer.
