Today, when I got home, my child had three bruises. My babysitter's excuse? "She hit me first". FML

Maybe you could give the babysitter a few bruises.

good. mabey she bruises to easily. and mabey you should be hit so you can get over it. :)

Would never leave my child with a stranger or babysitter for that matter...

Personally, I started babysitting at 12 and I would never harm a child

Oh HELL NO! Time to give the babysitter a few of her own! Yeah and get a new one cause child abuse is completely INEXCUSABLE!

Uh, you NEVER hit a child even if they hit first.. I hope you get her in a lot of trouble and that your little one Is gonna heal up those bruises fast..

She seriously should be arrested

While I agree that children should not be hit, the fact remains that the babysitter was probably technically still a "child" as well. Most babysitters are between 13 and 15 years old. I know from experience that certain children can be very trying to look after. Some hit repetitively no matter how many times you tell them that it isn't nice. While a responsible adult would realize that hitting back is not a solution, another child may not. Obviously the babysitter was in the wrong here, but can we please at least take into consideration the fact that she is most likely still quite young and doesn't have the same levels of maturity and patience as the mother/another adult would. Second, I have always been frustrated by the way that people gage the force of a hit by "if it leaves a mark". Some people bruise much more easily than others. I have been hit hard by people, soccerballs and basketballs and the floor when I am doing contemporary dance. No matter how hard I have been hit, I have never shown a bruise. I have felt them, certainly, under the skin, they just don't show on my skin. Other people receive the slightest of taps and have a huge dark blue bruise the next day. This is a matter of the force of the blow, not the marks that it leaves. The latter is not always a good indication of the former.
