Sorry to hear about that, and I agree that you didn't deserve that unless you were a total bitch...which we can't know for sure. Some 2 tops are harder than 10 tops and vice versa, it's all the luck of the draw....in serving, you never know who you're gonna get. Good luck with future tables though and keep your head up. :)
I am so, SO tired of hearing wait staff complain about shitty tips. If you're not getting enough money working as a server, get a better ******* job. It's not that difficult of a concept. You know how much money you'll be making going into it. Working in retail, you get customers who treat you just as shitty as people at restaurants, and no one working retail expects to get a tip. I hate the fact that if I want to go for dinner, I have to pay the staff out of my pocket with my hard earned money. That's the owner of the restaurant's responsibility, not mine.
That's because it's generally against company policy to accept gifts and gratuities. I work in retail, and have for seven years, and people try to tip me all the time and I can't take it. And maybe you should stop eating at restaurants if that's your attitude.
I bet you i know what they looked like.... Add 20% next time dummy - 1/2 the time they dont even realize it unless you point it out.
yo that is so disrespectful i am a waitress at a very understaffed restaurant and it is really hard. plus whenever the kitchen makes an error with the food you're the one that gets yelled at by the customers, and then you turn around and the kitchen is yelling at you too because they refuse to admit they made a mistake.

So, I generally tip 20% or more for wait staff. For shitty service, I have a system where I work down in increments of 5% from 20. I say this so we can avoid the later replies that say "Cheap ass mother ******* dick", etc... There are a lot of what-if's flying around the comments section. The OP said she was struggling through to wait on 13 people, she didn't say the restaurant was busy. Now maybe it was, and maybe the 13 people were assholes, and maybe she blows as a waitress and shouldn't have 13 people seated in her section. And, generally, a simple apology for being understaffed or for being a shit waitress goes a long way. So **** the waitress for the shitty service and her sense of tip entitlement, and **** the restaurant industry for expecting the public to pay their staff for them. I'd gladly go get my own drink and pick my own order up in the kitchen if it means not having to pluck down 15-20% of the tab or listening to some **** whine about tips?! Really, Outback Steakhouse, I'm pointing squarely at you!!!
And the kitchen can't always handle making that many orders at once.

Your restaurant doesn't add gratuity for parties of 8 or more? Most do, and this is why.
If you have ever worked in the restaurant industry, you'd realize this is a FML. No one deserves to get stiffed on a tip, especially for a party of 13. But like #3, why wasn't there gratuity added in?
