Today, while showering, I broke the cap off the shampoo. Not my shampoo, my roommate's. The $60 shampoo I swore I wouldn't touch. FML

It's the cap...so what? It's not like the bottle broke and it all went down the drain...simple explanation hell replace the cap if you are still nervous about the reaction

How does that even make sense? Just because you're not super rich doesn't mean that you shouldn't treat yourself to luxury items once and a while. People can do whatever they want with their money.

Being someone who has dealt with shit roommates for the past 6 years, you deserve that so ******* hard -.- If it's not yours, don't touch it. Grow up and buy your own damn shampoo, not to mention whatever else you're using that your roommate bought for herself and not you.

Jumping to conclusions seems to be the sport of the day. I've broken many a shampoo/body wash cap simply by bumping into them and having them fall to the shower floor at just the right angle. OP probably just bumped it and is now afraid that the roomie will assume, as you all have, that he/she was using it.

If it was truly an accident, then you have nothing to lose by being honest. The sooner the better because no one likes discovering property damage. That just causes angry, sometimes incorrect assumptions that are difficult to negate. However, if you flat out did something you swore not to do, (which the wording of this FML seems to imply), then I guess that was just Karma at its finest. Regardless of how expensive an item may be, if you don't have permission to handle it, simply don't.

This can be both. FYL because the roommate wasn't smart enough to take the bottle out of the shower when he's done. YDI because you were touching his stuff.

Was it an accident or did you touch it on purpose?

I really don't understand why so many people on this site have such an issue with others buying expensive products. Firstly, as has been stated, the shampoo could be medicinal and OPs roommate could have some condition that requires them to use it. Secondly, even if it is just a luxury product, so what? OPs roommate has a right to spend their hard earned money on whatever they choose. There are a lot of people here who have spent hundreds if not thousands on expensive gaming systems or electronics or other non essential items that they really wanted so why would you think someone else who chooses to spend their money on something they want that's expensive deserving of having their stuff broken? It doesn't make sense

Replace the shampoo, apologize..and be more respectful of your roommates belongings. Whether it was an accident or intentional, you should try to make things right
