Today, while working at a Subway store right next to a big hospital, there was a big line of people all getting their subs toasted. Without turning around, I asked the next person in line, "I'll bet you want yours extra toasted?" She was a burns victim from the hospital. FML

Hey, I'm the original poster. I think comment #78 has the right idea - I wasnt saying it in a rude way, just sort of jokingly, since the last few people had all said toasted. Was just putting theirs in the oven and getting her order at the same time.

I don't know how you said it, so I don't know if it could be rude or not. But it my head it sounded like a laugh-it-off-I-can't-believe-this-is-happening tone. Theres no way you could have known.

I'm actually a burn victim, and I would have thought it was funny. I would have been shocked, but I would have laughed. Hey, it's better than the people that stared. Now I look normal, thanks to a series of surgeries (most people can't tell anything happened to me, unless they're a doctor), but seriously- making a joke is soooo much better than the pitying look.

It wasn't rude unless it was said in a snappy tone. I didn't read it that way. I thought it was just a like "extra toasted, huh? been getting a ton of those today! :)" kind of comment. And if it was a busy day, he was probably just like putting another sandwich in the oven and starting to talk to the next customer in line a few seconds before he turns around.
