What was she expecting? "Oh, it's made of magic?"
Op probably could have said that anyway. Let's be serious, DQ ice cream cakes are pretty magical
It's made of rainbows, sparkles, and the breath of unicorns.

Show it anywayWhy the hell did your boss write you up? You didn't say anything rude or degrading. :/
Some bosses just react this way if a customer gets mad. That is reason enough for them.

Show it anywaySince when is "chuckling" considered being a jerk? Maybe if OP laughed and said"Wow, you're dumb" your comment would be justified. Or maybe you're just as crazy as the person who flipped out over ice cream cake.
Lots of questions are stupid questions. This FML is a good example of that.

Show it anywayYou're right, there are no stupid questions... but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots. sounds like there's a couple here in the comments too. For the record, sarcasm is a natural response to stupid. I'm impressed OP stayed as friendly as he did. i probably would have dead panned my response. It probably wasn't even the chuckle that got him in trouble. when customers have an obvious question answered with an obvious answer they can get pretty hateful when they realize their stupidity.
I got the impression OP chuckled because he thought the customer was joking. And asking questions is fine-- but so is taking a minute to think about what you're going to say and whether the question really needs to be asked.
I'm guessing you've never worked in customer service.
#40: I don't know; I've been chewed out by a customer before for chuckling about a comment they made. Some people just take it personally, or they assume that a chuckle is another way of saying, "You're dumb for saying that." Not to condone the customer's reaction, but OP just chuckled at the wrong person at the wrong time. He probably thought the customer was making a joke about how awesome their ice cream cakes are and decided to play along.
Oh my f- okay. Not gonna get mad, just gonna repeat the name of said cake and walk away. ICE CREAM cake. I-C-E C-R-E-A-M cake.
So LOL
"The customer is ALWAYS right" is seriously the most stupid rule ever.
We don't have that in Ireland, every time a customer says that to me I tell them it's not America.
Couldn't agree more, when I worked in a restaurant I had a customer ask for a Ruben with roast beef instead of corned beef. They took 2 bites and brought it back asking why it didn't have corned beef...
You should have told her to get a sense of humor. I would have laughed at the "made of ice cream" comment.
How would that make the situation any better? If anything, it'd make the customer even more offended.
I'm not quite sure how stupid people survive in everyday life. OP, I promise you this won't be the last stupid question you're asked in your lifetime. The movie Idiocracy is coming true, unfortunately.
OP, you did nothing wrong but keep this in mind... Life is hard. It's harder if you're stupid. Such a great quote from John Wayne. That customer is a moron.
Some people don't know the obvious when it is in front of them...maybe sugar coating your words will stop this from happening...
