Today, with 24 inches of snow on the ground, it is raining like hell. The weight of the snow, now full of rain water, collapsed the roof over my living room. I was eating cereal in my underwear, in the living room, directly under the failure. I'm cold. FML

Today, I was very cold and tired, so I took a shower to warm up and went to bed. The minute I hopped into bed, it collapsed and broke. I have spent half-an-hour rearranging furniture to get the mattress on to the floor. Now I'm cold again. FML

Today, I woke up to a quite frigid room, which wasn't out of the ordinary since my building's heat is broken. But I realized that the extra cold I was feeling was due to the snow piled up on my bed. It had snowed 20 inches last night. My mom had apparently opened my window. FML

Today, as I left my house, the front door slammed shut behind me, causing an entire roof-length of snow to slide over the edge and land directly on my head. FML

Today, the men clearing the walkway outside my dorm room with a snowblower didn't realize that my window was open. I looked over from my computer to see snow shooting in, covering my clock, closet, and radio. Now it's melting. FML

Today, I jumped into a pile of snow which had built up against a wall. Turns out it wasn't snow but a pile of cement covered by an inch of snow. I now have a 3 inch cut along my leg and a sprained wrist from falling. FML

Today, I got a phone call to say my workplace was closed due to extreme weather conditions. Looking forward to my day off, I then realised the boiler was broken and my house has no heating despite there being a foot of snow outside. I'm spending the day in bed, wearing all my clothes. FML

Today, I came home to my bed and most of my room soaking wet. This morning, my mom thought it would be "smart" to warm up my room by opening the skylight above my bed. There were heavy showers all day today. FML

Today, the toilet on the top floor of my house burst, soaked the bathroom, and water dripped down into the kitchen and the basement for hours when nobody was home. Eight blowers and a dehumidifier later, the house is about 90 degrees and I can't leave. FML

Sorry, but anyone who lives in a region of the world where heavy snowfall occurs, knows to shovel it off the roof when it gets that deep to prevent a roof collapse. If you were too lazy to get up there and be a responsible adult, you deserve it.

49 - I heard the Mass. governor recommend roof-raking ONLY if it could be done safely. Sorry for you bad luck, OP. Hope you're OK and warming up.

You have to weigh your options, I guess. Personally, I'd rather risk falling 10-2 ft off the roof into a pile of soft snow, than risk my roof falling in on my head.

54 - I just read (in CBS Boston) that he recommended you use a roof rake in lieu of climbing up on roofs with ladders, if it were a possibility, but to still take care of it. I know in my area, they've been warning since Friday to do whatever you can to get the snow off roofs, because of the rain (and the fact that we're expecting more snow on Thursday and this weekend...yay).

Even if he were handicapped (which is just your assumption with no evidence) there are plenty of people you could hire to do it rather inexpensively - at least in comparison to the cost of a new roof!

Guess they weren't Lucky Charms. ;) Sorry that happened OP, I'm from MA originally and just can't fathom all that snow now that I live in HI. Hope your roof gets fixed soon
