It's a lame excuse, but he was probobly lashing out over feeling guilty that he caused harm to his cat. Being spiteful as I am, I would have implied that he sucks at being a pet owner.
Maybe he shouldn't have pets if he's not going to take care of them properly.
Some cats are really good at hiding being sick, but it's not your job to judge the client but to heal the animal. I wouldn't take my cat to someone who made comments like that without knowing the full situation.
Obviously he did know the situation, and yes maybe it isn't the owners fault that they didnt realize, but its most definitely not the vets for not being able to save an animal when there was nothing he could do
It was implied, which could mean anything from "at the point they're at.." To an obvious remark. And even if op said it, it could be followed up by signs to look for. It's a vets job to look out for the animals health, including provide explanations and advice. If you don't want to hear how to care for an animal, get a stuffed one or visit them.
I once had a client accuse me of trying to charge her for unnecessary procedures because I recommended a test for her cat and she didn't understand why. If she'd told me my explanation wasn't clear I would have gladly clarified, but instead she went home and wrote a 2 page long letter to complain about it. Some people...
Who else read it as "vegetarian" instead of "veterinarian" and was very confused
Don't let the idiots get you down. I'm very thankful there are people out there strong enough to be vets in the first place. when I was 15 I brought my cat in after I noticed she wasn't eating (not even ham!) and was just behaving a bit oddy. She was only four so it was a real shock find out she had multiple kidney tumors and only a couple of months left to live. I had her put down that same day and cried so hard from the moment he said "kidney tumors" I almost passed out. I had always wanted to be a vet, but that day I saw a harsh reality that my heart just couldn't take. I know it was worst case scenario, and the joy you must feel when you can save a pet probably outweighs that by a million, but I couldn't keep myself so composed when I have someone that upset infront of me. So just... a big thank you for all that you and other vets do.
Most people are ignorant. And he doesn't deserve to be an owner of a cat. I am glad you told him what he should have done. The sad thing is people like the idea of owning pets but don't want to take any responsibility for the welfare and the financial obligations that having. Furry family member entails. Animal owners should be screened and must prove financial viability and care and common sense. I wished you have told him off more. Keep doing what you are doing. Animals are so important. And so special
I get it #2 !!!! Ahh funny joke

I went once brought in my cat after it l had been hit by a car a few days prior. The "vet" was so shitty, he couldn't even bring it back to life! He just kept trying to move towards the door and asking how I managed to get past reception with a dead cat. Pfff!
Don't take it personally. You didn't do anything wrong.
