How did he "make you" do that? You're a volunteer. That means unpaid which also means you have no real obligation. Once you are confronted with even the slightest adversity, you say, "Nope" and walk away with no consequence.
Were you aware that you could refuse, especially if it's a potential biohazard? You're a volunteer, not a PSW who's paid and provided supplies (such as gloves and medical masks) to do that kind of work.
