If you're getting your tonsils out as an adult I suggest you do some googling to find some information about post-op care. I had my tonsils out last year and it really helped that I followed all the post-op stuff to the letter. My recovery was very easy and not very painful (I've had sore throats that were worse). It's really important to drink lots of water even though it hurts. You don't want your throat to dry out that will hurt worse. And be really on top of your pain medication. Take it on time. Ask the doctor for a prescription of anti-nausea medication in case you have a reaction to the antibiotics or the pain meds. You might not have to fill it but it's good just to have it in case. Get an ice wrap so you can put it around your throat. I know that sounds silly but I found it did help me a lot. Popsicles are great (not red ones though because you don't want to look in your mouth and think you are bleeding). Jello is wonderful. You need to eat because that helps you heal so just find mushy/liquid foods you can handle. Cold or luke warm is best. You won't want to eat hot food. You can buy those protein shake things. I liked them when I needed to eat something but just didn't feel up to anything solid. And don't look in your mouth. If you think you might be bleeding in the throat have someone else look if you can. It really doesn't help to see the nastiness of what's back there when you're healing--unless you're like me and are fascinated by surgery/anatomy type stuff. Try not to yawn and whatever you do don't sneeze. Just hold them in. You really don't want to sneeze at all costs. Hope this helps some people!
