We got a reader!

Today, my new boyfriend came over to my apartment for the first time. Up until now I thought he was great, but when he spotted the book I'm currently reading next to my couch, he uttered the immortal question, "Why do you read?" FML
I agree, your life sucks 29 688
You deserved it 3 790

Same thing different taste

I don't think I would be able to be with someone who could utter that question in a serious manner.

I feel you OP. I love reading, to me they're better than movies because you feel like your right there and you can let your imagination run wild. It's a shame some people don't see reading the way we do.

Some people like reading, some don't. I fall right in the middle, very casual reader. I find you all to be very pious with your attitude towards those who don't though, calling someone an idiot because they don't read makes you just as big a jackass as OP's date.

but how is that an "immortal" question? OP, I'm not convinced that you do read.

I love books! My fiancé says I basically have turned my house into a big library because I have books in every room. If your boyfriend can't appreciate a good book maybe you need a new boyfriend.

Dump the idiot. -.- I friggin person asked me the same thing while I was sitting outside at my college, and they also called me an egg head. I kept looking at my book and asked them "why the hell do you breathe?" Before they could say anything I put my hand up and told them to stfu.

Why has no one brought to attention this retard used the word "immortal" so what now your BF can't die? He's a Greek god? Maybe you should read more you dumb bitch! Put down the book and go make your BF a sandwich!

Well it might have been a serious question. I hardly ever read. So me asking someone why that read isnt being ignorant but simply starting a conversation.

Wait.. So, your entire opinion of the guy changed because of the one question? And everybody else in the comments agreed...? "Oh. You don't share the burning passion for reading as I do? I don't like you anymore." That's ridiculous...

It's not that he doesn't read. It's that he doesn't understand why anyone would. That is the problem. Not sure if that's a good explanation.

It's a stupid question. If you don't read, thats fine, but asking why people read, thats another story
