Weird reason

Today, my girlfriend furiously bitched me out because I got more upset about my phone screen cracking than when she told me about the death of her cat. We hadn't even met when her cat died. Did she expect me to burst into tears from hearing the story? Guess who's single again… FML

If the cat meant a lot to her you should probably be sympathetic, it's hard losing a pet. But at the same time she also shouldn't have overreacted and broken up with you over not sobbing over a deceased animal that was never relevant to your relationship to begin with.

ydi. if it was her dad or other relative would you have reacted the same way? she obviously loved her cat, so why wouldn't that be important to you? you care more about your inanimate object that can be replaced than a living creature whom your lover values.

It is just as hard to lose a cat as any other family member. You deserve to be single. She just wanted your love and support but you were more worried about your REPLACABLE phone screen than her IRREPLACAE kitty

Caring about a cracked phone screen makes sense because it affects OP at the moment. He shouldn't have to be incredibly sad over a story of a cat from before they met. If you encountered somebody telling you their parent died about 5 years ago, you'd give them sympathy. It's not saying he didn't care about the chat at all, just that he cared about his phone screen more than a sad story.
