That was one of my huge problems with Lexapro. I would literally sit there for 10 minutes before anything would happen. It also made me grind my teeth. Just stop taking it right away, call your doctor, and he'll put you on something else. I'm now on Prozac, and so far so good. Just be patient until you find the one that works for you, because you will.
That's interesting. How soon did it show up? I've been on Lexapro for over a month and I haven't had those symptoms. I guess everyone's different, but does it come after a month?
Don't stop taking antidepressant or anti-anxiety meds without talking to your doctor. It can cause serious withdrawal symptoms and can really do some damage to your psyche.
It happened gradually within 4 days of starting on it and it was getting worse. I called my doctor and we weighed the options and thought it best to find something else. As for stopping an antidepressant, yes, it can be dangerous to stop, but not if you've only been on them a few days, and they usually start you on the lowest dose. It's usually the much higher doses that make it dangerous to stop.
Thankfully, there are so many different kinds of antidepressants that you can switch until you find the right one for you. There's so many, there definitely will be one that works!
For most people, being depressed is a lot more than just not being happy, and they can't just will themselves out of it. That's why they seek help. It affects your sleep, your body (aches and pains), your energy, obsessive thoughts and can be caused by a major anxiety disorder.
If somebody is depressed enough to be prescribted ADs, something natural will most often not help. I tried pretty much everything (like St John's wort) because I didn't want to take ADs, but one day I had to admit that it wasn't working and that I need conventional medicine to get rid of my depression and anxiety. Three years of citalopram later I'm doing fine! Depression is a serious disease, so nobody should feel bad for treating it as such.
Yeah, change brands. With the first brand I was on it basically functioned as Viagra.
dear interwebs and humans in general on the topic of 'anti-depressants', silly yous, its not anti 'depressant', its anti 'emotion'. big diff. means inability to experience extreme happy or sad. and, cant stress this enough, it is good for you but only in small timeframes. months+ will make your brain do weird shit. dear op, not to be off topic but kudos on proper use of affect/effect.
Dear interwebz and humans in general, Don't listen to medical advice from the interwebz and humans in general. Talk to your doctor or qualified medical personnel that you trust and figure out what works best for you and what you're comfortable with.
No, depression itself is anti-emotions. Though the emotions it suppresses are generally positive ones. It also kills motivation and creativity in a lot of cases. Please don't confuse depression with bipolar disorder, which treatment does tend to dull emotions for. Anti-depressants are supposed to bring you up to neutral, not bring you down even further - if that happens then that particular type is bad for you.
34, as someone who was clinically depressed and went on meds, I can tell you that when I was on my meds I was back to my extremely happy self! Full of emotions. The anti-depressants fixed my chemical imbalance and after taking it for several years, it fully corrected my imbalance, and I was able to go off of them and be no longer suffered with depression. You may have had a horrible experience or known someone that has, but don't go telling everyone else that they will.
Please consult doctor immediately
I'm on Prozac and haven't experienced anything like that. Maybe you should talk to your doctor, OP. It might be temporary, but still. God help you if you sneeze.
You get to save time there's a plus

Well, on the bright side, you can devote all that time spent not peeing to being not depressed :D But seriously, call your doctor ASAP. Anti-depressants can have all sorts of weird side effects; I took one that made me forget an entire day. I aced a test, attended and participated in several classes, and finished two major homework assignments, but when I woke up the next morning I thought it was still Monday.
Same happened here. Only, it wouldn't let me doo doo. Change meds, asap. Good luck, OP.
