Whoops

Today, I was helping a couple come up with a name for the baby they just had. I suggested "Joshua" thinking that it was an okay name. All sudden, the room got quiet. Turns out I had forgotten that Joshua was the name of their 3 year-old son who had died a couple months before. FML

While in some societies that sorta naming convention is acceptable, that was a pretty boneheaded and insensitive thing to do.

Ouch, this could happen to anyone; Your brain just pulling out that name and you slip it out before you've even though about what you said. FYL.

Has it even occured to anybody that the OP didn't know the couple when Josh died? OP- Sorry that happened. That's the worst. I once knew someone that agreed to play piano imprompteu for somebody she know's uncle's funeral. She played the song "Lambs May Safely Graze" Her friend called her an insensitive bitch. She later found out the uncle was a butcher.

How did you forget something like that? How mean, rude and disrespectful. Your subconcious made you say that, you don't like that couple too much do you?

Unless you had just met them (in which case it seems a little strange to be helping them name their baby...), how could you forget something like that?

not really your fault, but they probably think your a sick mother f@$@%r

You are not at all a horrible person, don't listen to any of these people. Everyone slips up. You were probably thinking of that name because you knew about Joshua but only subconsciously, so it just slipped out. Don't worry, that couple shouldn't blame you for anything, it's obvious you feel horrible.
