Well, to be fair, not everyone "correctly" brushes their teeth. The little details are often missed (e.g., not putting excessive pressure on teeth, circular motion, flossing after brushing, using mouthwash, etc.). It's also important to know that even dentists have bad teeth sometimes. :( In any case, props to OP for having the patience to teach him.

Exactly! I had a dental appointment a few months ago, and I learned a few minor brushing/flossing techniques that really make a difference. I think learning new techniques, even in your twenties, is normal, but it sounds like OP's case might have been more extreme.

I had to do the same thing with my boyfriend when he was 18. He never really brushed his teeth and I then found out that he didn't know how. And when he did he thought ur gums were suppose to bleed. He's doing much better now.

It's actually pretty normal for people to not know how to "correctly" brush their teeth. It happens all the time.
