Today, I was fired for not asking a senior citizen for proof that he was over 21 and legally allowed to purchase alcohol. When I told my manager he was clearly over 21, he replied, "But what if he WASN'T?" FML

If you work at Target you do have to ask. It's in the manual lol.

@tompom I've looked in my 20s since I was about 14. can't always go on looks.

What's more likely the old man is well into his 60's or 70's or a teenager who is REALLY good at applying old age make up and great at acting?

Disguises are crazy things and it's good to always check... Better luck next time

Sry OP, but it's store policy in a lot of places. I've denied selling a lighter to a man who looked around 35-40. Because it's smoking paraphernalia, which you need to present a license for. Yeah, the guy gave me a hard time, but I asked if they wanted to speak to a manager, they said sure trying to get me in trouble, and instead got the same thing said verbatim back to them that we won't do the sale. Why? Because it's a lot easier to, in the event of a minor leaving with tobacco products and the cops asking "wtf?" to reply with "they gave me a fake i.d., I did my obligation and checked" than "oops I'm just winging this crap". Think this way OP: is it really worth your job you saved the five seconds to not check the i.d.? No? Exactly why you should check each time.

Your mamager was looking for a way to fire you. You must have been much smarter than that douche bag and represented some sort of threat to becoming HIS. boss. Go back and talk to his boss!

Your boss is nominated for the asshole of the year award get your lawyer to send him his invitation and that you'll be seeing him in the nearest court house for the awards ceremony.

I thought the main reason you have to id people even if they look/are older then 21 is because their I.D can be expired which means it would be illegal for them to purchase liquor.

I've had this happen to me! My ID was refused because it was expired... what kind of rule is that? Did I get YOUNGER after it expired?? Maybe it is the law in some places, but it doesn't make any goddamn sense
