You tried

Today, while shopping, I saw a little girl and her mom. The girl was pouting so I tried to cheer her up by asking her if she was a princess, because she was so pretty. She smiled but her mom looked at me with disgust and told me to, "Get lost, pedo." I'm a 17-year-old girl. FML

I would've then asked the mom if she was a wicked witch, because she was being a bitch.

While I don't see what correlation age & gender have to do with whether OP is a pedophile or not, I still think that mom overreacted. People are a bit to paranoid these days IMO.

Age & gender are slightly relevant because statistically, the OP does NOT fall into the normal age range of a pedophile, nor is she male, when the majority of pedophiles are male, though there are documented cases of female pedophiles. Also, in 1999, there were 93,000 children who were sexually abused, of those 93,000 cases, half of them were committed by the parents of the abused children, and another 18% were relatives. <-- this quote from the child protection website would be a good reminder to parents, that your kids are pretty much 70% more likely to be abused by a relative, let alone someone they know, than a random stranger on the street. I'm not saying you shouldn't teach your kids to be careful, but teach them how to recognize inappropriate behaviour from ANYONE, not just Joe Blow off the street.

Gender still isn't important because as you said female pedophiles exist. Female pedophiles also are able to cover up their crimes better due to a) automatically being less suspected because of societies view of pedophiles being male. And b) women also tend to be around children more (the tend to be teachers etc) which also allows them to mask their intentions around children better. So I don't think that society can accurately say that men are more likely to be pedophiles, as due to the aforementioned factors, their could be a significantly higher number of female pedophiles than reported.

I've heard the term "Princess" applied at my old job. If someone was whiny or complaining, usually an exasperated co-worker would say; "Suck it up, Princess."

Just goes to show that you cannot be nice to anybody without them suspecting you of other motives. I'm sorry, OP, that sucks for you. At least you cheered the kid up though; her mum's clearly a bitch anyway if the girl was upset!

Get over it, maybe the mom was having issues with her husband

Yes, because calling a stranger a pedophile is totally validated by your personal problems. To be honest, I'd be more understanding of a '**** off' or something if the mother was in a bad mood. Picking the specific comment of 'get lost, pedo' makes me think the mother is paranoid and assumes everyone is out to get her child, not that she's having a bad day. That said, a single accusation of pedophilic behaviour (if pushed to the police/cps) can ruin someone's life, regardless of whether they actually are. If charges are laid, they don't disappear if someone isn't convicted...

You made the mom jealous that you can cheer her duaghter up. It's a natural reaction. You're probably a lot prettier too. Don't let the haters get you down.
