Canned beef stew is virtually identical to canned dog food, at least it was back in the mid to late 1960s--my dad actually mentioned just the other day that he'd compared the two once when he was feeding his German Shepherd while his mother was preparing beef stew from a can. The only difference between the two (besides their labels, of course) was that one was slightly lighter a shade of brown than the other (I can't remember off the top of my head right now which one was the lighter one, but I think it was the beef stew). Also, down in Florida, canned cat food gets shoplifted a lot because old people apparently are willing to eat the stuff when they are short on cash.

there's not really anything wrong with it; by law, dog food and cat food have to be safe for human consumption. Thank the food industry regulators that we'll be able to eat dog food during the nuclear apocalypse.

They always try to make pet food appeal to their owners. It's the owners who buy it. Dogs willingly eat shit so I don't think they care too much about the way their food looks.

I'm ashamed to say that I'v tried a tiny bit of the pet fresh stuff (the refrigerated stuff in a tube) on a dare. It wasn't the worst thing in the world....lol
