Show it anywayWow you read really deep in this FML but you are right. When I was 12 I had a walkman.

Show it anywayWell, some kids are so ungrateful!
I'm 14 and I don't even have a phone. It's crazy what society came to.

Show it anywayi got my first phone 6 months after i turned 16. Its the parent's fault for not raising their kid right.
When I was 12, I had my first phone -_- but it was for practical reasons since the middle school was kind of far. Anyways but I was never spoiled, cause if I was my parents wouldn't have it (Asians :D ) I think it all depends on how well the parents raise their kids. Besides, why compare 2 different ages? :/ Ok, so back then the cool things were DS's and portable cd players and all that stuff. Now it's just cellphones, touch screen innovation and the best-new technology. It's just what we grow up with and around to. But I do agree, there's always that kid that takes things for granted. But as for OP, hope she'll grow up and show some respect because I don't think it's hit her yet how one day, there'll be a birthday where you won't even be there anymore :(

Show it anywayI had a phone at 12 - granted, it was a crappy old Nokia, but I live in a rural area and I had to be driven there and back so it was necessary for communication. I didn't grow up selfish and amoral... so I don't see why phones are such an issue if used within reason.
Ooh, I forgot to put my first paragraph in sarcasm font. Better remember next time.
138 how about ending it with [sarcasm].
I don't take respect from my brother and sister. They wanna talk shit, they get a proper beating and shit talking. Beautiful.
I have a iPhone and I'm 12
She's at an age where she thinks she's the coolest kid on the block.
How is she soon to be 12 if today is her birthday.
97, I disagree with your initial statement. When I turned 12, I got my first cellphone for my birthday. I used it for calling my parents when I was at a friend's house or something of that sort. I'm 16, I have a job, I pay for my own car and gas, and most of my own meals. I'm grateful for everything my parents have done, and continue to do, so I'd hardly call every kid who got a phone at age 12 an "ungrateful bastard."
When I was 12 I played neopets. Wait I still play neopets... DON'T JUDGE ME.
I was meant to wait till I was 17 and got my p plates (Australias first level of driving without a license holder) to have a phone as my parents didn't have the money and they didn't like the idea of having a phone so young. but I saved up my chore money and my dog walking money and bought my big brothers old phone off him. I was 14. I was old enough to understand the responsibilities of having a phone. I only used it to contact my family as no one my age really had a phone. I learnt to work for the things I get and to earn respect from doing so. My parents agreed to me buying the phone as they saw I understood what I was doing and they were actually proud I worked or something not just be given it like an ungrateful child.
I had a cell phone when I was 7 because I rode the train halfway home with my siblings, it was for safety. But when I turned 9 we upgraded, which my brother broke...now I've gone through 2 more..(upgrades)
I got my first cell when I was 11 because I paid for it myself...maybe OP got it herself? probably not though...
My 5 year old niece has her own laptop and cell phone. What a sad world we live in...
I was 11 when I had my first phone, & I'm not an "ungrateful bastard." thank you very much.
168: First, I think we can assume OP is the girl's dad because in her reply text, she told OP that her mom wouldn't let her open presents yet. Second, where does it say OP is a step-parent? Because I don't see it.
I goty first phone at about 14 years old. This has nothing to do with the post but I also play the piano. :)
Seriously.. I don't understand how kids and teens could possibly be ungrateful for their parents. Tons of my friends say they hate their parents but how could you hate the two people who have birth to you and raised you? I understand if a person's parents are abusive,..but I really wish people were more grateful of everything and everyone in their lives.
When I was 10(my little sisters age) I had just barely gotten my first gaming system, a DS and we had a cellphone at the house that I'd get for emergencies only. My sister(who's 10) has a laptop, a dsi and a wii. We're only 5 years apart. So much has changed in just 5 years
193- Same exact story for me, but I had an old excuse-of-a-phone type of cell. Really. It cost $5, and that was a ripoff. I'm not ungrateful, but now I know I should buy my own cell phones.
Ubg
Lol... Everybody is just complaint about what age they got some magical music player or phone.... And didn't notice it wasn't 2000 anymore
2- I'm 15 and thumbed up your comment. I agree, my generation is very ungrateful. However, I charish every bday wish I get, and i'm filled with joy everytime my father tells me he loves me. Some of us are still kind and caring. Although, OP's kid does seem a bit on the selfish side, we're not all like that.
I love how many kids are on here being like "omg 12!! Im 14 and still don't have a phone" haha who the **** cares ;) I didn't get a phone till I had a job to cover my bill...
lol get a job and buy one your old enough...don't blame "society". I've been paying bills since I was 13 grow up
273: ridiculous, right? Now all the kids are talking about Darmstadtium Iodide and 3 Darmstadtium atoms. They're not that common, you ungrateful kids!
You know, it's not age that decides if you're at the "right" age for something. It depends on what you grow up with as a child and what your parents decide. Not all 12 year olds with cell phones are ungrateful
#153 that was my initial thought when I read this. Not about her being 12 with a cellphone lol
97 is redundant and ambiguous so just stop talking kids don't become ungrateful from cellphones @ 12 that's when I got mine and I'm very well mannered thank you very much
I have an iPhone. I'm not as spoiled as most kids, but my parents taught me respect, honor, integrity, and the things people need to have to be common citizen. I'm 14
Is that the reason for the duck face?
*An iPhone Pay more attention in school.
Not all kids, yes my daughter is 11 years old and has a blackberry and im happy she does the only reason she has one is because she respectes her mother and I, dont think all childern are.
I got my first phone around 11 or 12, and I barely use it now. I'm not obsessed with texting, and I can actually leave my phone in a different room without acting like I'm dying. I use my phone when I need to talk to my parents, (I tell them I love them too), and if I need important information from a friend. Not all children are like OP's daughter.
I got a cell phone in 5th grade but other kids had them in 3rd but honestly… I really am grateful I'm in 8th now and I've taken such good care of my phone it looks brand new I'm so grateful : )
kids can hav cell phones if they deserve it
yeah! lets all talk about how we didnt have a phone at 12 and this little spoiled brat does.... oooor you could stop and realize that cell phones are much more common now. just like having a DS was huge when the previous generation was younger! so calm down and stop playing the " i'm 10 years older so I'm better" card. EVERY generation says the one after them is trash. maybe instead of focusing on how dumb teens now-a-days are, we could try to actually improve society? hate to break it to you, but we are the future leaders, so raise your kid right and just be a good example instead of being a judgmental jerk.
... I'm a 13 year old with a cell phone. I've had it since I was 10. The same one. With minutes. The minutes I buy myself every month by doing all the laundry, mowing the lawn/raking leaves/shoveling, cleaning bathrooms and cleaning kitty litter. I get $10 a month for that, and am able to buy the 100 minutes I need. So guess what, bitch? I'm motherfucking greatful, unlike half the other 9 year olds with brand new iPhones, that just tell their parents they want unlimited, and they get it.
Clearly, #97 is quoting and summarizing the past comment's arguments in the first paragraph. Not stating his own. He then goes on to say 'come on, let's be practical here' and then reveals his own side. As you can see he is clearly NOT contradicting himself.
I'm 16 and my parents won't let me have a phone unless I pay for it myself! Needless to say I don't have the sufficient funds.
When I was 12 i got my first cheap phone that ended up breaking, but i only used it to text in emergencies or to tell my parents that me and my sister had started walking home. I had a tamagotchi when i was 7 and Nintendo when i was 8 but i would probably have stacks of books at home that i would rather read. When i was 14 I payed half for my phone, sold my Nintendo and Tamagotchi. I also got a laptop, so the only things i had was a laptop and phone but i was grateful and at that age my cupboards were full with more books than clothes but i still loved reading. I still do chores, work, help out an I'm grateful so it's not right to say all kids are ungrateful because your dead wrong
Ok, like someone before me said, phones are the DS of nowadays. People when you were kids probably thought you were spoiled. Plus, why the hell did you not come home from work early, or just take the day off on her birthday? My dad had missed my birthday 3 times before I was a teenager, and it's really annoying. Especially if you have a "don't open them until your father is here" type moms.
Back in my day we used to slap the kids with condoms. That straightened Em up
50 i like your profile pic
Texting her that is kind of impersonal. At least get a card and write in it.
You raised an ungrateful bitch
Am i the only one wondering how she is "soon to be 12" on her birthday?
That's exactly what I was thinking when I read it! I thought I was the only one who noticed haha

Show it anywaySince when do 12 year old have phones?
117, I'm guessing "you're" failing English.
Happy birthday!
Pissing myself right now! XD
¡No hablo ingles!
It's sad how greedy and selfish kids have become.
Kids are often like that at that age. She'll improve... maybe...
Agreed
**some kids**
You can thank the people who raised us for that
It's OP's own damn fault for spoiling that little brat. I mean who the hell gives a girl who's barely 12 a cellphone? YDI
Awwww, she does love you, she's just got a one-track mind right now. I still talk to my daddy that way and I'm turning 23 next month. But I do it specifically to be obnoxious.
And she just wants her presents
Right, because the mature thing to do is to call a 12 year old girl a stupid girl. Go **** yourself #64.
That's exactly what she said.
Ya it really is a 12 year old thing. Still I think kids nowadays are worse than before, but nonetheless it's just her being a 12 year old. Don't worry op she loves you just let her be. She'll come back to you :)
she loves you, but she loves presents more.
wow. She will make a great gf/wife to someone. yeah. Place a warning label on that one.
anyone can change for the better, if they choose to. IT is their choice. I have a distant cousin like that. She is stubborn hot headed, and very spoiled. She is smart and pretty so guys go out with her all the time. No one stays though. She wonders why she is single. Her dad and mom both spoiled the hell out of her.
cool story bro.
Just because your parents spoil you doesn't automatically mean you'll grow up to be ungrateful. My mom spoiled me and I'm appreciative of everything she does, and I always let her know. She taught me well :)
135 no I'm pretty sure regardless of parenting, girls become interested in guys around 13. Hell, in 4th grade there were kids getting into "dating" which it really wasn't. But you see what I mean.
