How very dare you?

Today, I was getting lunch at a fast food restaurant. My boss was in front of me, and in order to get on his good side I offered to pay. Instead, I got fired because I guess my boss assumed I was making fun of his salary, which I knew nothing about. FML

Man I am sure you can explain to him that you were just trying to be nice. If he still doesn't believe you then, good luck finding a new job! Hopefully things will work out for you!

People are getting more and more jumpy and sensitive these days... As they say, kindness is seldom rewarded.

Your not Keev! what's this new guy trying to add a sentimental comment?! I agree with you figure out how to talk to your boss or maybe even go to someone higher if there is and say the guy fired you on unlawful grounds.

Well, Keev's not the only nice guy on FML :) Hey, I'm not new either, just new at comments. I've been in FML for a long time. Silently watching, and enjoying the comments!

Hey, me too! Now my profile is stuck on hidden.. And I'm not sure how to unstick it. Unlocking the button is not working.

Well, after this, it's safe to assume his salary is shit.

I'm not convinced that this is even legal grounds for dismissal.

What?!?!?! Mirorbo without darling at the end of his sentence. I cannot believe this blasphemy.

2 - Kindness? OP was trying to "get on his good side." That's self-interest.

60 is right, that was some major ass kissery right there. This doesn't mean they deserved what happened, but this was in no way a selfless act.

Did you make fun of his penis too while you were at it?

Making fun of his salary??? What? The obvious grounds for dismissal are either(ee) shameless, clumsy brown-nosing bordering on bribery, or trying to kill him by enabling his lethal fast-food addiction.

I agree. Especially the last one. If the person is just under him on the totem pole an he happens to die while biting into a triple whopper OP has the job. Or is questioned for murder.

I'm probably wrong in saying that it is unfair for him to fire you like that and you can take him to court.. If that's not true then just inore this

That's true, and I completely agree with your statement. OP, take your former boss to court for wrongful termination!

I'm pretty sure Wyoming is an at will state, meaning his boss doesn't need a legitimate reason to fire him. I think there's some restrictions to it, like discrimination, but that's pretty much it (as far as I know)

I appreciate that, but even in "at will" states there needs to be validity, or when OP goes to unemployment, OP will get benefits! And go OP, you deserve whatever you can!

In an at will state, the law sides with the employer most of the time. My husband and I went through this a year ago. It would have been an expensive drawn out process (in which I could have lost my job as well because I worked for the same company) and we "might" have won. The potential pay off pretty much would have been eaten in lawyer fees.

28 is correct, you can be fired for cause, no cause, or something dumb like with the OP. the exceptions are discrimination AND they are still supposed to go through the proper internal procedure (warnings, write ups, etc) so depending in former employer he may have a case.

You can be fired for no reason in an at-will state, but you still have to justify the firing (as an employer) to the department of labor when filing a denial or in a court of law. At-will means they don't have to give YOU a reason.

I'm sure you wouldn't want to be working for someone like that anyways, OP. No good (attempted) deed goes unpunished, I guess.

OP was trying to get on his bosses good side by buying him lunch. He was trying to be nice.

I agree, sounds like a kiss ass.

Let me clarify: Boss buying lunch for subordinate = nice. Subordinate buying lunch for boss = ass-kiss. Subordinate buying lunch for boss, then stating he was trying "to get on his good side" = ass-kiss OP confessed to.

If he is your boss isn't he supposed to be making more money than you? so making fun of his salary would be making fun of your own salary and why would you do that? Your boss is nuts!

He doesn't take handouts.. what is this, a charity case?... MANN!

Might as well made fun of anything else you knew about him. He seems like a jackass.

You offered to pay Don't let it ruin your day Now you got time to play, Instead of being bored at work You can stay home and jerk Or... get on Cod n' MERK!
