Anti Joke

Today, a guy called customer support, claiming his internet wasn't working. I asked for his customer details, and he gave his name as Mike Hunt. I recognized the old joke, called him an idiot, and hung up on him. It turned out that was his real name. I'm now on suspension. FML

Anyone else thinking of "How I Met Your Mother" and cook poo?

So Mike apparently called back and complained about you? Doofus. He has to be used to this happening by now. He should either go by 'Michael' or get used to it and not complain when a totally expected reaction occurs. He's the jerk here, not you.

His name may not be Michael, it could just be Mike. Op should realize he's in customer service it's their job to be polite and respectful. Mr. Hunt had every right to complain, just because his name is an old joke doesn't mean he should just put up with such rude behavior.

My **** ops I meant mike hunt lol classic

he should probably be used to it by now probably not the best idea to hang up on him though even if he was lying

am I weird or is everyone that comments super judgmental? op maybe you shouldn't have called him an idiot but I would have DEFINITELY thought it was a prank call too

People are dicks like that all the time to customer service. He has to be on the look out for it. I give OP full sympathy because I would have done the exact same thing.

Weird,I would never take such a normal name as a joke YDI.

Crappy joke or not, never EVER insult the customer. Many employers value customers more than employees, especially when the employee insults an innocent customer for no reason. And really, what would the harm be to just play along?

Once had a customer whos name was Made Tittyporn. Spelled differently but impossible to pronounce any other way. Think it was Indian name.

Sorry OP, but I felt that you kind of deserved that. You should've treated the person on the phone as a customer all the way through until the end of the call, even if you thought it was a joke. I understand its difficult because a lot of people prank call customer support, but it is best to remain professional while on the job/at work.
