Just do it and no questions asked n00b.
Big deal. He's probably used to being mistaken for sighted if you did--or did you just not notice his dark shades, white cane & seeing-eye dog?
I'm losing my vision. I honestly would have given op a hateful look, then bust out laughing. the sight impaired DO usually have a sense of humor. As long as you apologized, no sweat, op.
aaahh, don't worry OP, most disabled people have a sense of humour, just as well, I have either seen or done things just as stupid. The other day some foundy at my school yelled after my guyfriend "ARE YOU DEAF OR SOMETHING?" after he dragged a table across the hall and made a racket, ofc, seeing as my guyfriend IS deaf, i got to reply to the foundy, definite FHL moment. The worst I've ever done, and no idea how I managed it, was say "hey, i saw you walking into school earlier" to a guy in a wheelchair. Needless to say, his sense of humour was limited, and that was the biggest FML moment ever, sucked pretty bad :/
Awww fhl and fy = **** u .
29/otbg: I agree that asking strangers "Are you blind?!" is more rude than funny, but I don't think it's offensive to jokingly call yourself blind after missing the obvious. I can understand OP confusing the blind guy's literal response as common hyperbole. It would be embarrassing, but the customer is probably used to such misunderstandings in short encounters like this. I have mobility issues now and then, but I don't take offense when people trip, then say something like "I can't walk today" or "I'm such a gimp." Getting offended at such things takes more energy than it's worth, since the speaker isn't usually being mean-spirited. IMO, overreacting to such things would just make me look like the stereotypically bitter disabled person.
WARNING: SPOILER AHEAD pendatik and Iggy haven't seen The Book of Eli, obviously. ;)
THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR SWITCHING TENSES LIKE A BABOON.

And then you apologized and everything was fine.
Should have told him you were blind, too.
