Today, I bought a device that plays a high-pitched sound to teach my dog to quit barking. She's smart enough to learn that as long as she barks loud enough and long enough, she can't hear it. Quite the opposite effect to what I was anticipating. FML

I would take it off. There are other ways to train your dog not to bark. You just need time to teach her.

Usually I just yell at my dog and then she stops because she knows she's in trouble. Then again, that thing starts shaking and panting uncontrollably at the slightest sight of a rain cloud but that's supposedly the fault of the previous owners who accidentally left it out in the yard during a thunderstorm.

I heard you can put pennies in a can and shake it to scare your dog during bad behavior. I had a dog that loved it! I had to reclassify the training tool as a dog toy. Good thing it didn't cost anything (well, ok, a few pennies.)

Just get the ones were it shocks the dog. You can choose how much it shocks them. Works really good.

That doesn't help at all. Why not train it instead?

Noise = pain, even dogs will understand. The reason more people don't use them is because they have decided it's inhumane, not ineffective.

So glad my dog isn't like others. She just barks when another dog walks by, other then that she's quiet during the day. I have a feeling her previous owner trained her. Anyways OP good luck

Let's face it, you're shit with dogs…

Id say the most common reason for dogs barking is due to dominance. If you thoroughly do your research on canine behaviour (as every responsible owner should) then you should have little trouble coming up with a solution that works with time, patience and commitment.
