Communication breakdown

Today, I took my car to be repaired. The mechanic put out his hand when he saw me, so I shook it. He just wanted my keys. FML

Not a big deal...I do that...more in the essence of shaking of thanking him for his work previously and that I trust him with my car...

Haha. The same happened with my chemistry teacher. She just wanted the chalk back and I shook her hand. Everyone in the class laughed but she defended me saying that she would have done the same. I thought she was congratulating me for resolving the exercise.
