Today, I got accepted into University, onto a course I don't want to do, but my parents said they would disown me if I didn't go. I believe them, since they haven't spoken to my shop assistant sister in about three years now. FML

Let them be stupid. They'll regret it when they don't have any kids who come to see them or talk to them. They'll just come crawling back one day, and u can tell them they did it to themselves

Even if you have to make your own way through uni (and life), do what makes you happy, OP. Don't let people own your soul through emotional manipulation. If they can only love you under certain conditions, they are not real family. Just ask your sister.

if your parents are that critical and demanding, I say do what you please, because a parent that treatens to literally disown you for not doing what they want probably isn't worth the trouble anyway.
