Today, I swam in a race against all of the girls in the midwest in the hardest, longest, most grueling race you can swim. I won. Happy but so tired I could barely move, I looked up to see my time. I had been disqualified. For flinching. Before the race started. FML

How is that grounds for disqualification? And shouldn't they have told you before the race started that you were disqualified?

this actually is an fml. i'm sorry, that really sucks. don't let it weigh you down though, it'll only make you feel bad in the long run. :/

In swimming, even a little move, before a race, can auto Disqualify you... :(

all of the girls in the midwest?

what that is stupid!! like here if someone moves everyone steps down and then gets back up on the block and then they start you again!! that is sooo stupid

i've done something like this before. I was doing a charity swim, and i stopped to ask how many i'd done because I lost count. Then they told me, and finished it with "of course none of it counts now, because you've stopped." I guess it was my fault, but I was only 11, and it was for charity :/

This is a lie. If you flinch on the start, its a disqualification and the race stops immediately. The starter will continually hold the start button, causing it to beep, with all the swimmers stopping. I've been a swimmer since age five, swam division 1. It's happened to me once or twice-you flinch, the race stops before it starts. The worst that happens is that you swim 50 yards before they stop you.

beluga, not always do the officials stop that race for a DQ. I got dq'ed for my 200 fly and they did not stop that race. It depends on where you are from, if you are swimming high school, ymca or rec. My dad is an official, I know the rules.I have been competitively swimming at 6, been to JO's and Nationals. PS. the longest race, aka the mile, SUCKS!!! i swam it once, hard as hell.

that sucks but you really should have known that, i have been swimming forever and that same thing happened to our "A" relay at confrence
