They really should make a TV show for stuff like this. 'When good intentions attack!' Today, a sibling bought what was thought to be an innocent manga comic for their little sister. Little did they know the effect it would have would be HARDCORE!
And you are a woman, stop reading FML and go back to the kitchen.
and this is 2009, cut the sexist remarks
You know you love me brown_eyed_girl.
Don't say that to Necrophile. It would mean that you are dead.
Ahh that sucks, especially when you were trying to get her a gift you know she wanted =/
"Trying" doesn't seem like the right word. Trying implies giving a rat's ass about what you're getting more specifically than "it's manga". This **** just thought, "hmm, she likes manga. This is manga. Therefore, she likes this. I'll just pick some random one off the shelf. It doesn't really matter, does it?" This moron was not trying. This ******** was throwing crap together at the last minute and trying to look like he put some thought into his gift.
Not all, but a lot of stores that sell manga are niche markets. Labels like "hentai" are expected to be understood, so when someone like the OP comes along it can be very easy miss what others would consider "obvious" signs. A book with a white cover wrapped in plastic, in the popular section. I don't think there's anything there that would tip off an average person to the erotic nature of its content.
thats why you always read the back cover. and, rule of thumb, if there's anything like plastic or something covering the book, if there's not a thing saying "STICKERS INSIDE" then its probably got something bad going on in it.
It sounds rather fake to be honest. Being someone who buys manga, I have actaually noticed the PLASTIC COVERING on the ADULT books. -_-
Yeah but they have white paper, THEN the plastic covering, or at least they do in England, which I am guessing is where OP is from. As for Lolicon being illegal... I don't know. Maybe it was soft lolicon, or of a nature that wasn't classified as purely lolicon. As to all those people telling him to flip though - you CAN'T on hentai mangas.
The "adult" manga is always labeled as such AND wrapped in plastic. Were you paying attention at all?
Clearly, he wasn't. If he were paying attention to what manga he was getting, he would have asked his sister what to get. Instead he took the lazy, I-don't-give-a-**** route: a wild guess.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that that stuff is illegal. What kind of bookstore did you buy it in? Surely not a Books-A-Million or something like that. YDI.
Annnnd THIS ladies and gents is the reason I HATE anime, manga or otherwise *angry disgusted face* ****** perves....
don't even dare generalize all of manga/anime like it's some huge perversion. it's not ONLY erotic reading material... FYI, there is manga/anime for children and preteens too. have you even HEARD of pokemon?

I think you should have looked. That's what I would've done.
Everyone's gotta see naked girls sometime. But you could've [should've] asked a sales person if you've never bought Manga before. Or at least found one age appropriate. Sure you didn't get the color code, but you could always ask. Or flip through it. Or the old "ask her what her favorite is". At least you know she read it? I get books all the time when people are like, "Oh, you like fiction right? Here's these books about wizard-wannabes." I never read them.
