Don't be this guy!

By clueless - This FML is from back in 2014 but it's good stuff - United States - Irvine

Today, I realized that when a girl asks what your plans are for Valentine's Day and you say, "Nothing" and she responds with, "Oh, I don't have any plans either", it means she wants you to take her out. It took me three months to figure that out. FML

In my best Red Forman voice, "dumb ass".

There is no way you didn't deserve this

Being subtle is one thing I think in most cases they want the guy to show some effort romantically in pursuing them. Though, there are women that subtle is one thing, but could easily be mistaken for being friendly and not interest. For the OP if she had been hinting at hanging out or doing something down the road the signs were there for you take take the opportunity and see how it would go. If not yeah she wasn't giving you enough info.

Why can't girls just be straightforward? Seriously how hard is to say "I'm alone on valentines day, you should take me out." Or does that just make it sound desperate....

To her, and a lot of other women in the US and possibly Canada and Europe, she probably thought she was being straightforward. Margret Mead explains it better. You should look into her stuff. It's interesting. ^_^

I don't know why people are voting ydi on this one. Sometimes things like that don't always click, and she could have said something back then herself.

Communication differences for the win! Don't feel too bad, just ask her out if you want to. Explain the situation. She might think it's... amusing.

This guy asked my sister, "So, are you going to prom?" She just said "no" so he awkwardly walked away. I think I hit her with something after that.

Is it safe to assume most of the YDIs are from females?
